Dylan Matteo is here!! This is his birth story!

Dylan's Birth story

After a week of start and stop surges, I woke up on thursday at 5am with quite regular surges, each one lasting 1 min every 10 mins. I didn't think much of it as was fed up with all the stop starts. This carried on through breakfast and all morning. We decided to get out and take Ethan to the park, at the park the surges became more intense so, we decided to go home and start timing properly and get things ready! I made lunch and went for a lie down. When I awoke, the surges had gone, and I thought that was it. A little while later though, they came back more intense and regular, about every 8 mins.

Sven got everything ready and we both got really excited that this was it! Our boy was coming!!!

By 6pm everything was kicking off, regular, strong surges. We called for my mom, to come a little while later so that she could be there if Ethan needed her, and to lend a hand in general. By the time she arrived, I was surging every 6-7 mins, lasting about 1 min.

By 8 pm I was ready to call for the midwives, I felt enormous pressure below, and a sensation on needing to bare down. We called the hospital, but because I was calm, and able to talk through the contractions (Just about) they decided I only needed to call back in an hour!!! Silly people don't they know that some woman can just handle the pain, and I was a practiced hypnobirther...so was calm anyway!? By 8:30pm, I said to Sven you better call them, I need to PUSH! They said they would send someone out. One our later a midwife and a student midwife (with the most beautiful angelic face) arrived!

They set up their gear and then the senior midwife checked me for the first time. Whilst doing her check she jumped back and removed her hand. She said she it felt like something had bitten her!!! I joked and said my cervix has teeth!!! LOL! She said no seriously! She couldn't ascertain what she was feeling so, had another feel and said, no, she couldn't tell if it was a mouth or an anus!!! Either way we would need to go to hospital to find out what was going on!

So they called for an ambulance! Bang went our beautiful home birth, but rather safe than sorry!

All this time, I am needing to push, the pain was so intense – not at all like with Ethan. I really had to dig deep to remain calm and focus on my breathing. Thank goodness for the Gas and air at this point as it really helped a little!

At hospital another midwife checked me over and she too could not ascertain what she was feeling, so the decided to do a scan. As soon as the probe went on they said...yip BREECH!!! WHAT! My baby had been head down since 28 weeks! This couldn't be! Not only was Dylan breeched he was a rare knee breech..which meant the only way to deliver was by C sec.

Sven got into his scrubs – GOD did he look good in them, should have been a surgeon! Off we went to theater.

In the theater the anaesthetist tried 8 times to get the Epidural in, but failed so as I was Cat 1 C sec, they had to hurry up and so they put me under General!

I woke up 1 hour later to meet our beautiful son! Sven had been looking after him whilst I recovered and I finally got to see and hold our boy when I started coming round. Mom arrived and she got to see her grandson number 2!

Through blurry eyes, and waves off emotion, I was happy it was all over and Dylan was ok. He was finally here! My surprise baby gave me a surprise birthing experience!

Dylan was born on 2nd July 2010, 00:04 and weighed 3.75kgs!

Having had a normal vaginal birth before, the pain I experienced of having a "stuck baby" that my body could just not expel was something else! I only had gas and air in the ambulance and at the hosp, as I needed to push and couldn't - without the G&A, I think I would have screamed the house down!

Not at all the birth we had anticipated, we went from a candle light chilled out environment to a theater! My poor MW feels so guilty about it all as I have seen her throughout, and Dylan was always in the same position. Even at my 40 weeks check she said he was head down!

Our boy is gorgeous, so good and so so tiny! He has already put on weight and is feeding well.

I am very much in love with him.

I am recovering well, I have had excellent care from my wonderful, amazing husband, whom I couldn't possibly be without. Sven, you truly are an amazing man!

Our little family is perfect, me and my handsome boys...all three of them!

Bump and fun times!!

Some photos of Ethan, and my pregnant bump...photos of my stomach taken at 27 weeks.

Ethan's cousin turns one!

We celebrated Kyle's first birthday and Christening on the 18th April. We were invited to a little party and Ethan had loads of fun...not to mention Smarties!!! LOL!

Ethan's opa Werner took some lovely photos of the day, and there are some lovely ones of Ethan! Take a look!

Baby's nursery!

We have finished the nursery, the clothes and bedding have been washed, and bags packed..now all we need is for baby to come. Not too soon though! I am really big now, and everyone asks if I am due any day now. Baby has dropped, and is sitting quite low.

I feel constantly tired, and heavy, but still love being pregnant. I love feeling little one move inside me. It is such a special time.

I am so excited for his arrival now, not long to go at all. 6 weeks till his due date!

Here are some photos of the nursery. We have a space theme for this little room and have put decals and artwork to match. Sven bought an alien abduction lamb which is very fitting! My mum made a fantastic cushion for my chair, I bought some vintage space fabric and she did her magic. I love it!
